Fire Destroys Home, Kills Dog In Huntington Bay
Two firefighters were treated at a hospital for injuries sustained while battling the blaze.
Two firefighters were hurt and a dog was killed from a blaze that broke out in a Huntington Bay home on Saturday afternoon, fire officials say.
The Halesite Fire Department responded to a two-story house on Bay Drive West for reports of smoke and flames at 12:34 p.m. Firefighters were advised by neighbors that while the homeowner was not home a dog was in the house. The neighbors said they had tried to locate the animal to no avail.
Firefighters later located the dog, however it had perished, officials say.

Firefighters fully attacked the blaze house inside the house on both the first and seconds floors. The fire, which was fully involved and very hot, was extinguished quickly with the help of about 50 firefighters on the scene, officials say.
Two Halesite firefighters were taken to Huntington Hospital to be treated for minor injuries and were later released.

Centerport, Huntington and Huntington Manor fire departments provided mutual aid at the scene, with standby fire and rescue coverage provided by the Cold Spring Harbor and Greenlawn Fire Departments.



Units were under the command of Chief Greg Colonna and Assistant Chief James Magerle.
The Suffolk County Police Arson Squad is investigating the cause of the fire.
