Harborfields HS Raises Money For Pediatric Cancer Charity Corey's Promise

A local girl named Belle, who is fighting cancer, was recognized at the event. The day featured raffles, games, food trucks and more.

GREENLAWN, NY — On a sunny Sunday morning in April, the Harborfields community came together for the Walking on Sunshine charity walk-a-thon, hosted by the Harborfields High School Leadership Class, the school district announced.

Students, staff, and community members joined together to walk the track in support of Corey’s Promise, a local nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and funds for pediatric cancer.

The organization is named after Corey Phelan, a Harborfields alumni who died of leukemia in 2022.

Pediatric cancer has touched many lives in the Harborfields community, including the Svoboda family, according to the district.

Their daughter Belle, a current student at Washington Drive, was diagnosed with cancer and
underwent both treatment and a rotationplasty amputation. Belle and her family attended the
walk-a-thon, where they sold copies of her book, "Belle the Brave," a touching story of courage,
resilience, and hope, told through the eyes of a spirited unicorn.

For a $5 dollar entry fee, participants enjoyed a day filled with raffles, games, face paint, food trucks, and more.

"It was a meaningful and uplifting event, made even more special by the outpouring of support from the Harborfields community," the district wrote.
