Usually the temperature rises over the course of the morning into the afternoon.

The temperature at 2 a.m. Monday on Long Island was about 34 degrees, but it has been sinking ever since and it will continue to drop all the way to zero–possibly dipping just below zero–by the time Tuesday morning rolls around. Wind chill temperatures will likely approach 10 below zero overnight.
