Huntington Approves Term Limits For Elected Officials

"This is a way to bring new people, and new ideas to government."

Term limits for elected Town of Huntington officials were approved by the Huntington Town Board at its Jan. 23 meeting.

Elected officials are now limited to three four-year terms. This measure applies to all those elected in 2017 and after, including the Town Supervisor, members of the Town Council, Town Clerk, Receiver of Taxes and Highway Superintendent.

“This is a way to bring new people, and new ideas to government,” Town Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said.

The resolution was sponsored by Councilman Eugene Cook.

Former Town Supervisor Frank Petrone served his position for 24 years.
