Huntington Lifeguard Honored For Lifesaving Rescue

The lifeguard is a recent graduate from Harborfields High School.

A lifeguard was recently recognized by Town of Huntington officials for rescuing a swimmer in distress last month.

Falyn Dwyer, who recently graduated from Harborfields High School, was stationed at Fleet’s Cove Beach in Huntington when she was notified about a swimmer in distress on Friday, July 21. Dwyer immediately responded and successfully brought the swimmer to shore. Dwyer resuscitated the swimmer and then called for EMS assistance.

The swimmer was taken to Huntington Hospital and has since made a full recovery.

“Thanks to Falyn Dwyer’s quick thinking actions, she was instrumental in saving a life, averting what could have been a tragic loss to family and community,” Councilman Mark Cuthbertson said in a press release.

At Harborfields, Dwyer excelled as a student-athlete. She will be attending Fordham University in the fall.

“The Town of Huntington prides itself on providing our lifeguards and support staff with vital lifesaving training and skills to better prepare themselves in the event of an emergency,” Cuthbertson said.
