Huntington Police Blotter: Checks Stolen From Drop Box And Washed

ALSO: A woman stole $7,500 worth of designer clothing from a business, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Huntington area from Oct. 28 through Nov. 3.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Oct. 31: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on New York Avenue in Huntington at 4:55 p.m. A woman wrote a check, police said. She dropped the check off at a USPS drop box in Huntington, police said. Someone intercepted the check and washed it, police said.
  • Oct. 31: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on New York Avenue in Huntington at 5:35 p.m. Someone wrote out a check that was stolen and then washed and cashed for a different amount, police said. The check had been dropped off at a USPS drop box in Huntington, police said.
  • Oct. 29: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Main Street in Huntington at 4:04 p.m. A woman stole approximately $7,500 worth of designer clothing from Mitchell's, police said.
