Update: Hit-And-Run at Jericho Tpke. Gas Station

Suffolk Police investigating hit-and-run on East Jericho Turnpike Wednesday, gas station employee in serious condition.

Suffolk County Police are seeking the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee after he struck and seriously injured an employee while pulling out of a gas station on East Jericho Turnpike Wednesday afternoon.

The incident took place at the Sunoco Gas Station at 1888 East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington at 4:20 p.m., according to Suffolk County Police. 

Jaffery Syed, 60, of Greenlawn, was flown by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

The driver of Jeep, a black male in his 20s or 30s, left the scene heading east on Jericho Turnpike, police said. The Jeep is possibly grey or silver and had out-of-state plates.

Eastbound traffic was backed up on East Jericho Turnpike for hours on the Huntington-Dix Hills-East Northport border after a gas station attendant was struck. 

The hit-and-run stalled eastbound traffic off E. Deer Park Road at the merge with Jericho Tpke. as the right lane was closed for police investigation. 

Police ask witnesses or anyone with information to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
