LI Family Will Get A Renovation On 'George To The Rescue' Show
The Schmidts, who created Maggie's Mission to help battle childhood cancer, will be featured on the NBC renovation show next month.

GREENLAWN, NY—Long Island towns have been featured on several episodes of the NBC home improvement show "George to the Rescue." The season premiere on Sept. 18 was set at Lido Beach’s Camp Anchor, a Town of Hempstead summer camp that supports young people with special needs. Next month the show will visit the Schmidt family in Greenlawn to thank them for their efforts to raise money for childhood cancer.
The tv show with host and contractor George Oliphant brings designers and contractors to a new location each episode, with projects chosen to highlight people going above and beyond to contribute to the community in some way.
Steve Schmidt and Donna DeSousa-Schmidt raised almost $600,000 for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as of 2019 to honor their daughter, Maggie Schmidt, who died of a rare cancer at 17. Maggie's Mission was created by the Schmidts after Maggie asked her parents before she passed away to "please save kids."
