Little Shelter Awarded Grant For Senior Dog Care

The grant will provide senior dogs with special veterinary and dental care so they'll be ready to find their forever homes.

Little Shelter Animal Shelter & Adoption Center in Huntington was the recent recipient of a grand to help local senior dogs receive the care they need before they find their forever homes.

The Grey Muzzle Organization chose just 66 animal welfare groups in 30 states from more than 300 applicants to receive a grant to help local senior dogs.

Ten-year-old Bruce is up for adoption at Little Shelter.

"This grant will help us give senior dogs like 10-year-old Bruce the special veterinary and dental care he needs so he'll be ready to go to his forever home," Little Shelter Director David Ceely said in a press release. "The love expressed by a senior pet when he or she has been rescued in unlike any other and we're looking forward to helping more senior dogs get the second chance they all deserve."

The Grey Muzzle Organization, a national nonprofit, has provided nearly $1.5 million in grants to make the world a place "where no old dog dies alone and afraid."

"Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we're delighted to help deserving organizations like Little Shelter make a difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities," Grey Muzzle's Executive Director Lisa Lunghofer said. "Many senior dogs in the Huntington area are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of Little Shelter."
