Town to Add Names to Vietnam Wall
Petrone approves request made by Huntington class of 1964.

Huntington will reopen its Vietnam Wall and accept new names to be inscribed on it.
Unveiled in 2003, the wall lists 1,112 Vietnam War veterans who live or lived in Huntington.
The decision to reopen the wall to new names was the result of representatives from the Huntington High School Class of 1964, who, preparing for their 50th reunion next year, approached Supervisor Frank Petrone about adding the names of about 20 of their classmates.
The wall includes those names on the original three plaques and those who were added before the wall was closed in 2008 and a fourth plaque was installed.
“This seemed to offer the perfect opportunity to reopen the wall to all Huntingtonians who would like to see their name or that of a loved one added to the list of those who served our country honorably in Vietnam,” Supervisor Petrone said. “We are proud to honor all of our veterans with the recognition they so richly deserve.”
The names will be collected throughout 2014 and the dedication of the new list will be part of ceremonies marking the 40th anniversary of the war’s end in 2015.
To be eligible, a person must have lived in Huntington for six months at some point in their life.
