Islip Man Injured In Boat Explosion: Police
The boat was secured to a dock in Islip Canal, police say.

ISLIP, NY — A man was injured in a boat explosion in Islip on Thursday night, Suffolk County police said.
The explosion happened around 10:15 p.m. on a sailboat secured to a dock in Islip Canal.
Police officers arrived to a strong smell of gas, boarded the vessel to locate the source, and found a 44-year-old Islip man in the wreckage. He was carried safely to shore.

The man was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Police also disabled and secured a leaking propane tank.

Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau, Town of Islip HAZMAT team, the US Coast Guard, Islip Fire
Department and Exchange Ambulance of the Islips, also responded to the scene.
A preliminary investigation found the cause of the explosion didn't appear criminal in nature.
