Town of Islip officials and Suffolk County police are taking action against illegal cannabis sales in smoke and vape shops on Long Island.
ISLIP, NY — Town of Islip officials and Suffolk County police are taking action against illegal cannabis sales in smoke and vape shops on Long Island.
In a press release, Islip officials announced a partnership with police as "a continued effort to prioritize public safety" by conducting joint inspections at smoke and vape shops across Islip.
"The inspections aim to eliminate the illegal sale of cannabis and protect residents, especially youth, from unregulated and potentially dangerous substances," the release said.

In the last week alone, officers inspected nearly 10 shops in Islip and issued over 50 violations.
"With cannabis being one of the most widely used illicit substances among adolescents, and the alarming rise in products laced with fentanyl and other harmful substances, the Town is taking decisive action to ensure that our community remains safe," said Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

According to officials, selling marijuana without a New York State issued license is a criminal offense and repeated offenses could lead from tens of thousands of dollars in fines to misdemeanor charges and potential jail time.
