Mini Van Breaks Utility Pole In LI Crash: FD

The driver of a minivan broke a utility pole during a crash on Long Island, according to the Islip Fire Department.

ISLIP, NY — Long Island firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident earlier this week where a minivan snapped a pole in half, officials said.

On Tuesday, around 4:50 a.m., crews from the Islip Fire Department and the Exchange Ambulance of the Islips were called to the intersection of Commack Road and Winthrop Street in Islip, officials said.

Upon arrival, crews found that the broken pole had caused the secondary power lines to come down, officials said. The driver of the vehicle was able to self-extricate and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
