Motorcyclist Killed By Wrong-Way Driver On Southern State: PD

The man died Tuesday, police say.

ISLIP, NY — A motorcyclist hit by a wrong-way driver on the Southern State Parkway died Tuesday, police said.

According to New York State Police, at 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Exit 43A, Carlton Avenue in Islip Town, after reports of a wrong-way driver. The trooper was updated that the driver of the vehicle, a Blue 2004 Buick driving westbound in the eastbound lanes, struck a 2005 Black Honda motorcycle driving eastbound, police said.

The motorcyclist, Hugo H. Cajamarca, 42, of Patchogue, was ejected from the motorcycle, police said. Both drivers were taken to a nearby local hospital, police said. The driver of the Buick suffered minor injuries; Cajamarca was pronounced deceased at the hospital, police said.
