Orbic Breaks Ground on $100 Million Investment That Will Bring More Than 1,000 Manufacturing Jobs to the US

Orbic announced today that it has begun the development of its 135,000 square-foot facility that will bring more than 1,000 jobs to the US

Orbic Electronics Manufacturing LLC, a Long Island-based designer and manufacturer of connected technology products including cellphones, laptops, wearables, tablets, and mobile hotspots, announced today that it has begun the development of its 135,000 square-foot manufacturing facility that will bring more than 1,000 manufacturing jobs from overseas to the United States—specifically Suffolk County in New York. The project, known as Project Patriot, is aimed at revitalizing American production of connected devices and establishing a robust domestic supply chain. This milestone was celebrated with a commemorative groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new facility, attended by more than 200 local community leaders, elected officials and business partners.

“Today's groundbreaking at Orbic Electronics represents the future we're building across New York State — one where companies choose to invest, innovate, and create good-paying jobs right here at home,” said New York State Governor Kathy Hochul. “This $110 million investment proves that when businesses want to lead in advanced manufacturing, they turn to New York. From Long Island to the North Country, we're seeing companies recognize that our state offers the perfect combination of skilled workers, world-class infrastructure, and strategic support that makes success inevitable. With projects like this, we are proving that New York doesn’t just compete — we lead.”

To make this effort possible, Orbic is planning to invest more than $100 million to ensure that every stage of the manufacturing process is developed and executed locally. This includes retrofitting its existing 60,000 square-foot facility and building an additional 75,000 square-foot space. Employees of all levels will be given proper training at the beginning of their employment period, free of charge. Support from the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency (IDA), Empire State Development’s $10 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Tax Credits and other government partners have been instrumental in bringing this ambitious vision to life.

“We are grateful for Orbic’s decision to build their business in Suffolk County,” said Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine. “This important project creates jobs and opportunities, helping Suffolk grow, and we look forward to seeing Orbic flourish.”

“Orbic’s investment is a bold step forward for high-tech manufacturing in New York State,” said Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight. “By choosing to grow in Hauppauge, Orbic is deepening its roots in a region known for its talent, infrastructure, and innovation potential. At Empire State Development, we are proud to support this strategic reshoring initiative, which will bring over a thousand jobs to the region while fortifying our state’s position in the global technology economy. Projects like this reflect our core mission—supporting smart, inclusive economic growth that creates lasting opportunity for New Yorkers in every corner of the state.”

“This groundbreaking represents a major milestone for Long Island and a turning point for advanced manufacturing in the region,” Kevin Law, Chair of Board of Directors at Empire State Development. “Orbic’s expansion is proof that Long Island has everything companies need to thrive—from a highly skilled workforce and strong transportation networks to a vibrant ecosystem of research institutions and community partners. The company’s decision to invest more than $100 million here is not only a testament to our regional strengths, but a signal to the broader industry that Long Island is ready to lead in 21st-century manufacturing.”

LIREDC Co-Chairs Linda Armyn, President and CEO at Bethpage Federal Credit Union, and Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, President of Long Island University, said, “Orbic’s decision to locate and grow its advanced manufacturing operations on Long Island is a direct result of thoughtful regional collaboration, strategic workforce partnerships, and a shared commitment to economic growth. By working with local colleges to train the next generation of high-tech talent, this project is helping ensure that the benefits of investment reach deep into our communities. The LIREDC is proud to support projects like this — ones that create sustainable jobs, foster innovation, and position our region as a long-term leader in advanced electronics and connected technologies.”

“Orbic’s investment in Suffolk County is exactly the type of bold, forward-thinking move that helps Long Island stay competitive in the global economy," said Matt Cohen, President and CEO of the Long Island Association (LIA), “Orbic’s plans for expansion and local job creation demonstrates a long-term commitment to our regional workforce and economic strength and solidifies Long Island’s position as a leader in high-tech manufacturing.”

“We are incredibly proud to welcome Orbic’s investment right here in Smithtown,” said Supervisor Ed Wehrheim. “This isn’t just about bringing high-tech manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.—it’s about bringing them home to Smithtown. This bold move puts us back on the map as a hub for innovation and opportunity. It supports local families, fuels our regional economy, and reinforces Smithtown’s reputation as a forward-thinking community and a premier place to do business. I applaud Orbic’s leadership and vision, and I’m excited to watch this transformative project grow and succeed.”

Project Patriot is part of a long-term strategy by Orbic to reduce its reliance on overseas production and bring a greater portion of its supply chain under domestic control. The company began laying the groundwork years ago, investing in equipment and facility space to build out a U.S. operation capable of competing with offshore manufacturers.

The event brought together several state and local officials, business leaders and members of the community to the site of the expanded facility at 555 Wireless Boulevard in Hauppauge. Once complete, the expanded 135,000-square-foot plant will become the company’s first large-scale U.S. factory, producing up to 5 million devices annually. Customers like Verizon have encouraged Orbic’s shift to domestic production in response to supply chain disruptions and rising demand for American-made technology.

“The past few years have clearly shown the importance of our region becoming more self-sufficient,” said New York State Senator Mario Mattera. “This significant project will help advance that goal while strengthening our economy and creating valuable opportunities for the local workforce. Long Island is home to some of the most hardworking and skilled men and women and the addition of over 1,000 jobs will enable them to work and stay on right here in our community. I commend Orbic for their commitment to Long Island and look forward to their continued success at this new facility.”

“Manufacturing is a cornerstone of a strong and resilient economy, and today’s groundbreaking is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when forward-thinking companies invest in our region,” said State Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick. “I commend Orbic for their bold decision to bring more than 1,000 high-quality manufacturing jobs back from overseas and to do it right here on Long Island. This kind of long-term investment will strengthen our local economy and will set an example for how American companies can lead the way in innovation, workforce development and community growth.”

“Orbic’s Project Patriot is a tremendous win for the people of Suffolk County,” said Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy. “Investing in our community brings real, lasting benefits for local families and workers. This initiative will create good-paying jobs and will send a strong message that Suffolk County is a place where innovation thrives and opportunities for our residents continue to grow.”

Orbic’s plans extend beyond Hauppauge. The company is exploring additional locations for manufacturing facilities in Suffolk County, including sites in Bay Shore and other parts of Hauppauge, with the goal of opening three more plants and creating a total of 1,000 jobs over the next five years.

“The groundbreaking of Orbic’s new, expanded facility marks a major milestone for Suffolk County and the broader Long Island business community,” said Terri Alessi-Miceli, President and CEO of HIA-LI. “This kind of investment brings real, measurable benefits to our industrial base and reaffirms the Long Island Innovation Park at Hauppauge as a prime destination for advanced manufacturing. HIA-LI is proud to support companies like Orbic that are helping to reshape the future of American manufacturing while creating meaningful opportunities for our local workforce.”

“The Suffolk IDA is proud to support Orbic in the pursuit of our shared mission to advance manufacturing and economic prosperity in Suffolk County, said Kelly Murphy, Executive Director of the Suffolk County IDA. “Orbic’s Project Patriot is a local success story and a demonstration of what is possible when the public and private sectors work together to drive economic growth. We’re thrilled to see Orbic take this important step forward in our collective mission of bringing high quality jobs to Suffolk County and bolstering our local economy.”

As the United States continues to navigate complex trade dynamics and invest in domestic manufacturing, Project Patriot offers a rare roadmap for success in a space that has long been dominated by overseas giants.

“Today marks a major milestone in Orbic’s journey to bring high-tech manufacturing back to the United States,” said Mike Narula, President and CEO of Orbic Electronics Manufacturing LLC. “This groundbreaking is the result of years of planning and investment, and we’re incredibly proud to see it come to life here in New York. We take great pride in having our products ‘Made in America’ and bringing more than 1,000 manufacturing jobs home to Suffolk County. We thank all of our partners for their support, and we are grateful to all who attended the celebration of this milestone for the industry, New York and Suffolk County. We look forward to continuing this process.
