LONG ISLAND, NY — The weather on Long Island has been great lately with record-high temperatures and dry skies. The good times come crashing down this week, though with not one, but two nor'easters possible.

A flash flood watch will be in effect from 8 p.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Tuesday on the island.

"A rapidly developing low pressure system south of Long Island will likely produce heavy rainfall across the region," the weather service says. "Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts are possible. Rainfall rates may exceed one inch per hour at times."

The heaviest rain is likely Tuesday morning. Winds from the northeast are expected to increase significantly Tuesday afternoon, with gusts possibly hitting 50 mph into Wednesday morning.

"The strength and westward extent of these strong winds and gusts are highly dependent on the
low positioning where a closer low will allow stronger winds to push farther westward," the weather service says. "As of now, the strongest winds appear to be for the eastern portions of the area and along the coast."

The rain moves out Wednesday morning and we should stay dry until Friday when there's a chance of another nor'easter impacting the region.

"The same massive storm that is currently bringing heavy rain, snow and strong winds to the Western states is expected to slowly move eastward across the country this week," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson says.

At the moment, the likely timeframe for heavy rain appears to be Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the weather service.
