Severe Weather Possible On Long Island Thursday

An isolated tornado is not out of the question, the National Weather Service says. See when the risk of storms will be greatest.

LONG ISLAND, NY — The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Long Island, with severe storms possible during the latter half of Thursday.

"Showers and thunderstorms late today into this evening may produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall. An isolated tornado is not out of the question," the outlook says.

The greatest threat of severe storms will be between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Thursday- A slight chance of showers between 2pm and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday Night- Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2am and 4am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Breezy, with a northwest wind 11 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 49. Northwest wind 7 to 15 mph.

Saturday- Sunny, with a high near 79. West wind 9 to 14 mph.

Saturday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 65.

Sunday- A 30 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 79.

Sunday Night- A 50 percent chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.

Monday- Sunny, with a high near 80.
