Suffolk Police Officer Injured While Conducting Traffic Control: Cops
The officer was injured after a crash, police say.
ISLIP, NY — A police officer was injured in a crash on Sunday, while operating traffic in Islip, Suffolk County Police said.
At about 11:10 a.m., a Third Precinct officer was engaged in traffic control regarding flooding on Eastbound Sunrise Highway, near Carleton Avenue, when a commercial van struck the passenger side of the police vehicle, officials said.
The officer was airlifted via police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the van was taken transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore as a precaution.
The vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are
asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
