Town Of Islip Celebrates Newest Centenarian, WWII Veteran Nicholas Della Valle

TOWN OF ISLIP, NY — A Town of Islip resident was recently celebrated for his military service and for a milestone birthday.

Nicholas Della Valle, who turned 100 last week, was recognized by Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Recreation Deputy Commissioner Carol Charchalis, for this momentous occasion.

The town officials visited Della Valle in his home, and awarded him an official citation.

"We thank you for your service," Carpenter said to him. "On behalf of the 330,000 residents we have in the town, this is a special day for us, to honor a special person, and celebrating a special birthday."

De Valle joined the United States Air Force during World War 2, and served as an engineer mechanic and crew chief of the B-26 Bomber 1298 Twin Engine, a Town of Islip video said.

He would go on to serve in the Pacific War as a corporal and aerial gunner on the B-25, "contributing to the efforts that enabled the Allied Forces to emerge victorious."

De Valle appeared emotional in a Town of Islip video, and thanked the Supervisor.

"I wish you all to be healthy, and to live a long life," he said.
