Children's Author Johanna Hurwitz Visits Gardiners Avenue

Hurwitz has published over 60 children's books.

Story by Liz Sobel.

Levittown students enrolled at Gardiners Avenue Elementary School celebrated Parents as Reading Partners by hosting acclaimed children’s author Johanna Hurwitz.

The students enjoyed listening to Ms. Hurwitz tell stories about her fictional characters, talk about her career and answer questions. Students who had purchased her books were allowed to have them autographed, and a number of fifth-graders accompanied the author during lunch.

Ms. Hurwitz has published over 60 children’s books. Her first book, “Busybody Nora” (1976), was one of the first chapter books in the genre for transitioning young readers to shorter stories and then to novels.
