The Island Trees Junior Varsity baseball team has started off the season with a bang. The boys are 9-1 while posting some impressive team statistics.
The current team batting average is .376 while the boys have plated 122 runs in 10 games. The team has also collected 135 hits with an OBP of .452.
The offense hasn’t been the only impressive part of this team’s success. The pitching staff has a team ERA of 1.70 while giving up only 55 hits in 70 innings. Also, the team WHIP is a solid 1.11.
Individual standouts have been Tucker Hahn, who is batting .500 while collecting 17 hits, scoring 16 runs, and leading the team with 19 rbi. Rich Pinsent has also been tearing it up at the plate batting .452 and is tied for the team lead with 5 doubles. Rich is also 4-0 on the mound. Joe Buda is also hitting an impressive .482.
Tom Gilmartin has played a solid centerfield highlighted by a “big league” catch against Garden City early in the game. He is also batting .353. Anchoring the pitching staff has been Scott Nacovsky. Scott is also 4-0 with an ERA of 0.59 and a WHIP of 0.72. He has 29 strikeouts in 23 innings and has only walked 6 batters. Scott got his first no hitter at the high school level last week against Bethpage.
The team has had so much success so far because the entire team has been contributing to the victories. The Bulldogs will look to continue that success in the second half of the season.
