Levittown Dedicates Division Avenue Auditorium To Dr. Tonie McDonald

The district honored the legacy of the former superintendent at a dedication ceremony earlier this month.

LEVITTOWN, NY — The legacy of former Levittown Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tonie McDonald will forever be a part of Division Avenue High School, now both in name and spirit. On Sept. 2, district administrators and building leaders dedicated the high school’s auditorium to McDonald, honoring her long service to the Levittown community.

McDonald, a graduate of the Levittown district, served as the district superintendent from 2014 to 2022. Her educational career began at Division Avenue High School in 1995, when she served as a social studies teacher. She has also held a number of other administrative and leadership positions in Levittown and beyond — but, as the ceremony’s guests pointed out, it is her compassionate nature that is everlasting.

“There are many stories about Tonie and what she did for the district,” said Superintendent of Schools Todd Winch. “Her heart has always been in this building and now her name will be as well.”

“An auditorium, especially of a high school, is more than just a gathering place,” said Division Avenue Principal John Coscia. “Our auditorium is the epicenter for the community where we live and breathe all things Division all year. . . I can think of no better way to honor the legacy of Dr. McDonald than dedicating this auditorium in her honor.”
