Levittown Resident Nancy Melius to Be Honored

Levittown resident Nancy Melius, founder and president of Gold Coast Mansions Historic Long Island, will be honored by the Oyster Bay Historical Society at its inaugural awards reception to salute “Long Island’s Top Advocates for Historic Preservation & Education.”

Melius will be honored at the ceremony on Tuesday, July 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Woodlands in Woodbury. 

This is a first-ever annual awards program to honor individuals across Long Island who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to historical preservation and education.

Melius is currently the marketing and design director at Oheka Castle, and the eldest daughter of Gary Melius, the owner of the estate.  She is also the founder and president of Gold Coast Mansions Historic Long Island.

Melius began her career as a dancer in the National Tour of Cat’s and on Broadway in the show “Gypsy” starring Tyne Daly.  In her late twenties, Nancy left the theater to work on 7^th Avenue in the fashion industry and earned a merchandising degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology (Class of 1993). Later, she branched into the Interior Design industry before moving to England. 

For seven years, Nancy divided her time between London and New York City running a successful computer company.  Five years ago she returned back to New York full-time and decided to finally work with her family at Oheka Castle where she enjoys the chance to spend more time with her family and the opportunity to assist her father in achieving his dream to complete the restoration of Oheka. 

Melius' love for the future of the Gold Coast Mansions is reflected most in her work as the president of Gold Coast Mansions Historic Long Island. A few years ago, she encouraged other historic mansions on Long Island which were open to the public to create a collaborative marketing campaign to attract tourists, and film productions to the mansions.

In her spare time, Melius dances ballet and Argentine Tango, enjoys traveling and hiking, and is pursuing some creative endeavors of her own.

Proceeds of this event will benefit the Oyster Bay Historical Society, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating a broad public interest in and awareness of the rich and distinctive history of the Town of Oyster Bay.
