During an afternoon ceremony at Farmingdale Public Library Saturday, three women from Levittown were among 10 to receive Assemblyman Tom McKevitt's "Woman of Distinction" award.
Louise Cassano, Jessica Koenig and Margaret Santer received the distinction and were recognized by McKevitt.Â
Cassano has served president of the Levittown Chamber of Commerce and the Levittown Community Council; is active in St. Bernard’s Church, where she taught religious instruction & co-chaired the Pre-Cana Program; and co-chaired the 50th & chaired the 60th Anniversary Celebrations for Levittown, among many community activities for which she is known.
Koenig has been in the library field for over 25 years, serving as Assistant Director of the Long Beach Library for four and a half years, Director of the Island Trees Library for two years and now the Director of the Island Park Library, just reopened following Superstorm Sandy.

Santer has been a Levittown resident for 45 years. During those years, she has been a Brownie Troop Leader and a PTA Volunteer at Summit Lane School, Wisdom Lane Middle School and Division Avenue High School, all in Levittown.Â
"The women that we honor today represent some of the most accomplished and selfless individuals in our state and our nation," McKevitt said. "Our communities are the wonderful, welcoming places they are due to the warmth and generous spirit displayed by our honorees. We are very lucky to have these women as our friends and neighbors."

McKevitt further thanked the honorees' families, who have "allowed their loved ones to spend so much time caring for others."
Women are selected based on their accomplishments in the fields of business, community and civic affairs, education, government, health care, humanitarianism and military service.Other women of distinction include: Millie Jones of East Meadow; Deborah Canova of North Massapequa; Tina Diamond of Farmingdale;  Laurie May of Westbury; Carol Muscarella of Massapequa; Laurie Rozakis, Ph.D., of Farmingdale; Barbara Sherwin of South Farmingdale.
