Library to Host Trash or Treasure Antiques, Italian Opera Show

A look at some upcoming events at your local library.

The Levittown Public Library has a number of fun events coming up in August. Please note that some events may require registration or tickets, and some events may require a fee.

Hiking on Long Island: Tuesday, August 6 at 7 p.m. Long Island is such an interesting place to hike in the summer! Join Lee McAllister, author and hiking guide, for a PowerPoint presentation and discussion about how and where to hike on Long Island.  Lee is a naturalist with a detailed knowledge of these areas.  Learn the geology, history (natural and human), flora, fauna and topographical features that make Long Island a great place to hike during any season. Registration required.  No fee.

Trash or Treasure Antique Show: Do you have something old or unique and you wonder if it has some value? Certified appraiser Eddie Costello and his wife Jean, will present a lecture that is both informative and highly entertaining on how to identify today’s hottest antiques and collectibles. The first 40 people registered will receive a free verbal appraisal of any one antique or collectible, (no coins, currency, or stamps.) Registration required. No fee.

Author Triss Stein Visits: Author Triss Stein will be speaking about her new mystery book “Brooklyn Bones.” Light refreshments will be served.  Registration required.  No fee.

Outdoor Movie: Thursday, August 15 at 7 p.m. Grab your chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and head to the library for a night of entertainment enjoyed by all ages.  This movie will be shown in the staff parking lot on a big screen designed to show before sunset.  Seating is on a first come basis, some chairs supplied.  Gourmet Food Trucks will be available for dinner or snacks! Oz the Great and Powerful. No fee or tickets required. 

Opera on National Senior Citizen Day: Wednesday, August 21 at 2 p.m. Tenor Salvatore Chiarelli will sing Italian opera, popular and traditional Italian/Neapolitan songs, musical theater pieces, Italian/American songs, and movie sound tracks.  Light refreshments served. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.  Registration required. No fee. Walk-ins based on seating availability.
