Murray Encourages Residents to E-Cycle in Levittown on August 3

Residents can safely dispose of old electronic equipment at the event.

Submitted by the Town of Hempstead.

Supervisor Kate Murray is encouraging neighbors to team with Hempstead Town in its efforts to preserve our planet. Murray invites Hempstead Town residents to participate in the next E-Cycle program, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3 in Levittown from 8 AM to 2 PM.

The event will be hosted at Town Parking Field L2 (at Division Avenue, north of Hempstead Turnpike) in Levittown.

“If you have any old computers, televisions or other electronic devices that you want to dispose of, I urge you to participate in our e-cycling program,” Murray said. “Let’s work together to help save our planet.”

"The world of technology is dynamic and changes by the minute. But with people using more electronic devices than ever -- tablets, computers, printers and televisions – the future of our planet is at stake," the Town said in a release. "If older, obsolete electronic items are not disposed of properly, they could potentially expose our precious planet with toxic materials, such as lead, mercury and arsenic."

At E-Cycling Collection events, residents can also dispose of old electronic equipment, such as computers, computer components, televisions, printers, VCRs and DVD players.

Additionally, in partnership with Covanta Energy, residents can safely dispose of unused and expired medications, whether they were prescribed by a medical professional, purchased over-the counter or any other medicinal product. The discarded medicine is collected by the Nassau County Police Department, which then safely transports the items for disposal at the Covanta facility in Westbury. What’s more, residents can bring paper records to shred as they wait and watch.
