Nassau Man Caught Stripping Cars At Local Dealership: Police

Police say he ran from officers and hid in the woods, but was found and arrested a short time later.

LEVITTOWN, NY — A Nassau man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he was caught trying to strip vehicles at a used car dealership.

According to police, officers responded to Long Island Auto, located at 301 Newbridge Road in Levittown, at 5:08 a.m. for a theft in progress. When they arrived, police say the officers confronted Scott Raba, 51, of Seaford, and he fled north on Newbridge Road into a wooded area.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area and were able to find Raba, police said. He was arrested without further incident.

Raba is charged with third-degree auto stripping, possession of burglar tools, fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal mischief. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police say Raba was previously arrested for larceny on Aug. 8, and was released with an appearance ticket.
