April 29 Lindy Edition

What's happening includes how you can help Lindenhurst Patch, a royal wedding, shuttle launch, SpringFest, LFD open house and a LHS play.

TGIF, everyone. There’s a lot going on the next few days as we roll into the weekend.

Globally, there’s the royal wedding, and coverage on most news networks started at 4 a.m., with the service from Westminster Abbey that ran from about 6 a.m. to about 7:15 a.m. EDT. Did you watch Will and Kate get married today? Will you watch it later on DVR?

Domestically, the last launch for the Space Shuttle Endeavour had been scheduled for 3:47 p.m. EDT. However, it was scrubbed a little after 12 p.m. due to a heater issue. NASA tweeted the news and the reason scrubbing launch for at least 48 hours.

The launch was to be led by Mark Kelly, commander of the Endeavour mission. His wife is Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords who’s recovering from an assassination attempt in January. She was scheduled to attend the now-scrubbed launch, and so were the president and his family.

Local to Lindy, there are a number of events happening today and through the weekend that should pique your interest. Also of note is the fact that today is Arbor Day, given that Lindenhurst is named after the Linden trees that lined Wellwood Avenue.
