Board Discusses Latest Tree City Nod, Concert Series

Village trustees take note of Lindy's 27th straight year of Tree City honors, and discuss upcoming summer concert series and recent SpringFest.

The received word at its most recent meeting that for the straight year Lindenhurst has been named a Tree City USA community.

Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane read the letter about the status bestowed annually by the Arbor Day Foundation, noting that a plaque ceremony will be take place at a later date.

Lindy is one of 99 Tree Cities in New York, and one of hundreds across the U.S.

At the May 3 meeting the board also discussed the upcoming annual series of held in the for residents, plus this year’s SpringFest, among several other agenda items.

Trustee Jodi Caravella, who’s been organizing the for the past four years, told Lindenhurst Patch that she’s still in the process of setting the , which should be soon.

“There are every weekend, and it’s gotten bigger every year,” said Caravella. “We’ve got a lot of contemporary and rock and roll.”

Other Business
They included the approval of the election of offices for the Lindenhurst Fire Department for 2011-12 as follows: Chief, James Gallagher; First Assistant Chief, Mike McCloud; Second Assistant, Mike DeGregorio; Third Assistant, Paul Vinciguerra; Secretary George Schomburg; and Treasurer, Mark Santoli.

The elections were held early in April, and the annual installation dinner was held April 30.

In addition, trustees also accepted the letter of resignation of Thomas Brielmeier, a seasonal probationary laborer. The board noted he will be joining the marines.

The board also approved the following:

  • Girl Scout Troop 289’s request to use of the 9/11 Memorial Garden on June 3 at 4 p.m. (rain date June 4) for a Girl Scout ceremony.
  • Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s request to use of Village Park on June 20 for a fourth-grade picnic.
  • Annual Relay for Life committee’s request for use of village equipment for the event set for May 21-22.
  • United Veterans Council of Lindenhurst request to sponsor its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies on May 30. The parade route will be the same as in previous years, and is on file with the village. All activities will be at approximately 8:30 a.m. at Breslau cemetery.

In addition, the board approved the applications for the following junkyard/autowrecking yards: Albany Avenue Auto Salvage, AABLE West Auto Salvage, Elite Auto Parts, ACT Auto Wrecking Corp., A Plus Auto Salvage and A Plus II Auto Salvage.

It also approved a refuse collection license for Bohemia-based National Paper Company Inc. dba as Network Waste.
