Brawl After Sunrise Highway Collision Leads To Three Arrests

The fight in North Lindenhurst was caught on video.

NORTH LINDENHURST, NY — A lunchtime brawl after a crash on Sunrise Highway Wednesday led to three arrests, including one 16-year-old.

The fight happened after two vehicles crashed at 12:35 p.m., and one, with two child passengers, was flipped onto its side. A physical altercation ensued, with two men wielding some kind of stick until bystanders took them away. The fight near North Green Avenue was caught on video.

All involved are known to one another, Suffolk police said.

James O'Connor, 19, of Huntington Station, faces two counts of second-degree assault. He was also charged with leaving the scene of a crash, reckless endangerment and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child — he had two children in his vehicle, police said. His vehicle was a 2010 Toyota Tundra and was the vehicle on its side.

The other vehicle was a 2022 GMC Sierra

Patrick O'Connor, 38, of Huntington Station faces two counts of second degree assault.

A 16-year-old boy also faces two counts of second-degree assault.

The adults were scheduled to be arraigned at First District on Thursday, police said.

Police told Newsday that two people involved were treated at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for non-life-threatening injuries. The extent of those injuries was not disclosed.
