LIRR officials said they expect Wednesday's commute to be more of the same, with cancelations during both the morning and evening rush. Restoration of full service on Thursday is "directly dependent on the progress of Amtrak's repairs," officials said.

Among the repairs, Amtrak crews are replacing 275 damaged track ties. Once repairs are completed, testing must also be performed before the tunnel can be restored for train service, officials said.

Customers should continue to check on service before heading to train stations, said railroad officials, by monitoring the MTA website.
