Cops: Amityville Man Broke into Home While Owner Slept
A man broke into a Third Street home through an unlocked door Wednesday morning, police said.

An Amityville man broke into a Garden City home Wednesday morning while the owner was asleep, according to Garden City Police.
At 3 a.m., Nervon Gayles, 20, entered a Third Street home through an unlocked backdoor, cops said. Once inside, Gayles took electronics and cellphones before fleeing the home, police said.
The homeowners, who were asleep during the incident, were not harmed.

Detectives located Gayles on Terrace Avenue in Hempstead by tracking one of the stolen cellphones, cops said.
Gayles was charged with second-degree burglary and fourth-degree possession of stolen property. He will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
