Fireworks Explosion Severs Man's Fingers In Copiague: Police

A fireworks explosion​ seriously injured a man in Copiague on Thursday night, Suffolk County Police say.

COPIAGUE, NY — A fireworks explosion seriously injured a man in Copiague on Thursday night, according to Suffolk County Police.

Ryan McCloskey, 21, of Eastchester, was lighting fireworks at a party on Trouville Road when it exploded in his hand around 9:10 p.m., police said.

The explosion severed three fingers on his left hand and damaged the other two, police said. He also suffered a burn to one leg, according to police.

Responding First Precinct Patrol officers applied a tourniquet to stem the bleeding before McCloskey was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries, police said.
