'Unimaginable Pain': Community Rallies To Help Lay Teen Fatally Shot In Suffolk To Rest

Family seeks help to bring 17-year old BOCES student back to his home country after fatal shooting.

NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY - Family and friends are rallying to support the loved ones of Robin Moscoso, a 17-year-old who was fatally shot in North Amityville on Oct. 18, according to Suffolk County police.

A GoFundMe — created to help cover funeral expenses and the cost of returning Robin's body to his family's home country, where he will be laid to rest among loved ones — has raised more than $4,400 as of Monday.

The fundraiser was organized by his sister, Julissana Guzman, who described Robin as "a bright and kind 17-year-old ... a loving son, brother, and friend" taken far too soon.

"Our family was not prepared — emotionally or financially — for something like this," Guzman wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Any amount you can give, no matter how small, will help lift some of the burden from my father's shoulders and allow us to focus on honoring Robin's memory."

According to Guzman, the tragedy comes as the family's father, Julio Moscoso, recovers from a recent respiratory cardiac attack and is currently unable to work. The family said the funds will help with travel, funeral arrangements, and other unforeseen costs. Robin's death has devastated his loved ones and the community, she said. His sister wrote that their father is "enduring unimaginable pain" and that the family is "struggling to comprehend a world without him."

Police said Moscoso was shot once in the chest on Francine Avenue around 8:55 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

Bryan Ventura-Ramirez, 20, of North Amityville, was arrested and charged with second-degree
manslaughter and criminal possession of a firearm, police said. He was scheduled for arraignment Oct. 20 at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
