Harding Avenue Students Travel Back in Time at Colonial Fair

Students get a taste of past American and colonial life during annual fair.

Harding Avenue Elementary School’s fourth-graders hosted the annual Colonial Fair, during which students had the opportunity to participate in activities of the colonial times.

New this year was a live quilter, a woman who makes quilts for a living. The fair also featured a schoolhouse, a station where laundry was washed by hand, a blacksmith and carpenter’s shop, candle and soap making, a doctor’s office, games, toys and live musicians.

The students researched what typical colonial life was like in the 17th century.

Each student developed a toy or game to display and taught others how to play.

“There were also food, props and costumes to help make the fair a learning experience for all students,” said fourth-grade teachers Patricia Swanson and Lori Arcoleo. “It was awesome to see the enthusiasm the students had with this project.”
