Holiday Happenings: Tree Lighting, Santa's Ride, Toy Run
Keep up with everything that's happening this holiday season in Lindenhurst with this weekly column.
The Lindenhurst community is home to numerous holiday traditions that residents enjoy year after year. It's also home to holiday fundraisers and gatherings in which residents are invited to participate.

Where/When: Knights of Columbus-OLPH Council #794, Tree Lighting, December 6, 8 p.m.

Why Go: All are invited to attend and enjoy the Christmas sounds of the Romeos. Coffee and cake will be served after the tree lighting.

Where/When: North Lindenhurst, December 10, 9 a.m.
Why Go: The annual tradition features Santa Claus making an appearance all throughout the streets of North Lindy courtesy of the department. So keep an ear and eye out on your block on Saturday, North Lindy!
The event runs for as long as it takes for Santa and the department volunteers to visit the neighborhood via fire truck. In years past candy canes have been given out, and Santa's been accompanied by some special holiday friends.

Where/When: Chosen Souls Motorcycle Club, 300 West Hoffman Avenue, , 10 a.m.
Why Go: The Chosen Souls Motorcycle Club - a law-enforcement-based motorcycle club and charitable organization that's dedicated to safe motorcycle riding, as well as helping L.E., firefighters, military veterans and their families who might be in need - is holding a toy run this for the seven-year-old of a Lindenhurst firefighter who's undergoing treatment for cancer.
All are welcome; please bring a toy to suitable for a seven-year-old boy. And anyone wishing to ride his/her motorcyle - or car - in support from the Club to the LFD firehouse on 39th Street should meet at the Club at 10 a.m. Coffee will be served ahead of the benefit ride, and the toys will be brought to the firehouse to be presented to the family there.

Why Go: Students are collectiing toys for children in Winthrop Hospital's Pediatric Ward as part of as part of the "Extend the Holidays" - an annual effort organized by New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.
The hospital uses the toys to help cheer up their young patients, and they're delivered after the holiday season so children could experience the joys of receiving a holiday gift throughout the year, according to the state senator's office.

Why Go: Pay it Forward with Jackie (PFWJ) is holding its second annual holiday stocking . Last year PFWJ delivered almost 1,800 gift-filled holiday stockings to sickly and less-fortunate children who were spending the holiday season in a hospital or homeless shelter. This year the goal is 2,500 stockings.

Why Go: This is an online fundraiser featuring Tastefully Simple food and gift products, and 20 percent of the proceeds will go to LMS Student Activities.
Price: Purchase of one of the products online.
