Lindenhurst Girls Receive Highest Scouting Honor

Suffolk Legislator Horsley congratulates two local Girl Scouts at inaugural Gold Award ceremony.

Meghan Briana Keeler and Kaitlyn Lucas, Lindenhurst residents and Girl Scouts, recently received the highest award in scouting: the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Those Girl Scouts who receive this award have completed several project components and fulfilled a minimum of 80 hours of work in achieving a project that creates lasting change in their community.

“The Girl Scout Gold Award carries responsibility along with honor,” according to a release from Suffolk County Legislator ’s about Keeler and Lucas’ achievement.

“It symbolizes outstanding accomplishment in leadership development and community service,” added.

The girls were among 48 girls from Suffolk who were honored at the inaugural Gold Award ceremony hosted by the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County.

, Suffolk County Presiding Officer William Lindsay and Legislator DuWayne Gregory attended, and presented proclamations to both Keeler and Lucas at the ceremony to recognize their receipt of this award, which he called “prestigious” in the same release.

“I offer my heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of these young ladies who exemplify the values of leadership, character and service to their community” said Horsley.
