Lindenhurst Teacher Wins LIFACS Award
LHS's Caroline Naluai has been named teacher of the year by Long Island Family and Consumer Science Professionals.
Caroline Naluai, a family and consumer science teacher at , recently earned top teacher honors by Long Island Family and Consumer Science (LIFACS) Professionals.
The LIFACS Teacher of the Year award was presented to Naluai “for her dedication to her students, school district and profession,” according to Eastern Suffolk BOCES.
Family and consumer sciences is “based on the understanding that the ability to reason, to think critically and creatively, and to reflect on one's action will empower students to act responsibly toward themselves, their families, their peers and society,” according to ES BOCES.

The purpose of career and technical education (CTE) is to provide learning experiences where students become aware of a broad spectrum of careers, and develop skills that are applicable to personal and career roles and are necessary for employment in specific career areas or post-secondary study, added BOCES.
Naluai accepted the award at a ceremony held at Captain Bill's Restaurant in Bay Shore in May where she was joined by LIFACS Area Coordinator Lynn Parks and other peers.

She also recently won the LHS Let Them Eat Cake challenge with students Nicholas Decuitiis and Amanda Takach, according to the .
