Lindy Seventh-Grader Honored at Convanta Energy Awards
Water filtration project lands middle school student over $100.

Lindenhurst Middle School seventh-grader Blake Waszmer won $125 for his project “Got Filtration?” in the Covanta Energy Awards. Covanta owns and operated the Babylon Resource Recovery Facility in West Babylon.
The project recognized the importance of filtering and purifying water and compared bacterial growth in the presence of natural filterers like soil, plants and clams. Blake loves nature and frequently experiments at home.
The awards granted more than $3,000 in scholarships to fourteen students from the Town of Babylon during the Annual Earth Day Celebration at Town Hall. All of the students honored had completed environmentally related science projects.
