Lindy’s Simons Attains Eagle Scout Rank

County, town and village officials recognize William Simons along with family, friends and scouting officials.

Lindenhurst resident and Boy Troop 60 member William Simons recently received the Eagle Scout rank at his Court of Honor ceremony at the local Knights of Columbus.

Simons’ Eagle Scout project involved the cleaning, resurfacing and repainting (or re-striping) the parking lot stalls at the . He also filled the potholes in the Lindenhurst-based church’s lot.

“Along with many years of faithful service and dedication, Simons completed a sizeable community service project and was recognized and honored with this esteemed award… All of his efforts turned out beautifully, and he has without a doubt earned the respect and praise of his community,” according a release about Simon’s honor from the Town of Babylon, which was represented at the ceremony by Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon.

Many of Simon’s family members, friends and peers attended his Eagle Court of Honor ceremony, too. The Eagle Scout was also honored by Suffolk County Legislator “for completing the difficult journey that leads to the highest award in scouting,” according to a release from the legislator’s office.

Also on hand to recognize Simons were Village of Lindenhurst Board Member Mike Lavorata, as well as Joseph Perez, former scoutmaster, Rene Hensley, charter organization representative, and Tommy Amendolara, assistant scoutmaster.

In addition to his dedication to the Boy Scouts, Simons was also very active in school activities. He received the scholar athlete award for varsity football and participated in lacrosse, soccer and basketball. Plus, he was a member of the National Junior Honor Society as well as the Business and Marketing Honor Society.

This September Simon will attend the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University.
