Wellwood Avenue was temporarily closed Thursday afternoon as LIPA crews replaced utility poles along the roadway.
North Wellwood Avenue was shut down between John Street and Harrington Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. as LIPA crews dug out an old utility pole that had been previously damaged.
Crews dug a new hole and placed a brand new utility pole into the ground, spending over an hour on the process of digging, installing and reattaching utility lines.
The roadway closure, which was unannounced, created a bit of a traffic delay during the rush hour commute down the main artery of Lindenhurst. Drivers were forced to go on to nearby side streets to head north or south, creating a bit of a log-jam on those roadways.
As of 6 p.m., the roadway was reopened to public traffic and the LIPA crews appeared to be wrapping up work.
