LIRR Babylon Branch Delays, Diversions, Cancelations Continue Tuesday
LIRR updated its website Monday night with service changes affecting Tuesday's morning commute on the Babylon branch and others as a result of Sunday's Amtrak derailment.
LIRR delays and cancelations due to Sunday's will continue into Tuesday morning, affecting many lines – including Babylon, which runs through Lindenhurst – as the LIRR continues to clear the East River tunnel, repair any damage and bring the signals back online.
As the LIRR , these peak service delays and cancelations marking Monday morning’s morning and evening commutes will continue through at least Wednesday, May 11.
According to the LIRR website Monday night, there will be a reduced morning rush hour service on May 10. A total of 22 trains will be canceled or diverted to other terminals, said railroad officials.

The LIRR continues to urge customers to allow extra travel time and to alert them to expect scattered 10 to 20 minute delays system-wide.
Here is the latest set of Babylon branch service changes posted to the LIRR website affecting Tuesday morning’s commute:

- The 5:56 a.m. train from Babylon, due at New York at 6:59 a.m., will be diverted to Atlantic Terminal.
- The 6:42 a.m. Babylon train, due at Penn Station at 7:49 a.m., is canceled.
- The 7:37 a.m. train from Babylon, due at Penn Station at 8:48 a.m., will be canceled at Jamaica.
- The 8:35 a.m. train from Babylon, due at Penn at 9:37 a.m., will be canceled at Jamaica.
In addition, these trains on the Babylon branch trains will also be affected:
- The 6:14 a.m. train from Massapequa Park, due at Penn Station at 7:08 a.m., is canceled.
- The 6:57 a.m. train from Freeport, due at Penn Station at 7:40 a.m., will be diverted to Atlantic Terminal.
- The 7:29 a.m. train from Freeport, due at Penn at 8:13 a.m., will be canceled at Jamaica.
- The 7:43 a.m. train from Merrick, due at Penn at 8:31 a.m., is canceled.
- The 8:10 a.m. train from Freeport, due at Penn at 8:50 a.m., is canceled.
- The 8:25 a.m. train from Freeport, due at Penn Station at 9:08 a.m., will be diverted to Atlantic Terminal.
Customers should check on service before heading to train stations, said railroad officials, by monitoring the MTA website, listening to the latest news and traffic reports and/or signing up for free a-alerts that provide the latest train information direct from the LIRR train operations center.
Customers can also contact the LIRR's Travel Information Center at 718-217-5477 (718-217-LIRR). Hearing impaired customers can use their preferred relay service provider or the free 711 relay to reach LIRR at 718-217-5477.
