Babylon Line Disruptions Continue for Wed PM Rush

LIRR updated its website Wednesday afternoon with service changes affecting Wednesday's PM commute on the Babylon branch and others.

Tonight’s LIRR commute will once again be marked by delays and cancelations, according to the most recent update on the MTA/LIRR website.

The LIRR has already revised its timetable for when peak service will return to normal following Sunday's , telling customers in a statement on its website it expects to have the East River Tunnel back online by Friday morning’s rush, depending on the progress of the repairs to the tunnel and signals.

peak service delays and cancelations would continue through Wednesday, but they will continue through Thursday evening.

As a result, the LIRR will once again reduce PM service Wednesday night as follows:

  • Cancellation of 20 eastbound evening rush trains.
  • All eastbound evening rush Far Rockaway trains will depart from Atlantic Terminal.
  • Westbound train service to Penn Station terminates at Jamaica, and on Port Washington Branch it terminates at Woodside at approximately 4:30 p.m.
  • Customers advised to use New York City E and Number 7 line service as an alternate.

Specifically, here are the Babylon branch service changes – which affects Lindenhurst – posted to the LIRR website affecting Wednesday evening’s commute:

  • The 4:04 p.m. train from Penn, due at Babylon at 5:05 p.m., was canceled. Customers were accommodated by the 4:12 p.m. train from Penn to Massapequa Park, which will be extended to Babylon.
  • The 4:34 p.m. train from Penn, due at Babylon at 5:39 p.m., was canceled. Customers were accommodated by the 4:37 p.m. train from Penn, due at Babylon at 5:52 p.m., which will make all combined stops.
  • The 4:52 p.m. train from New York, due at Babylon at 5:55 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:03 p.m. train from New York to Wantagh, which will be extended to Babylon.
  • The 6:33 p.m. from Penn, due at Babylon at 7:35 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:36 p.m. to Wantagh, which will be extended to Babylon.

In addition, these trains on the Babylon branch will also be affected:

  • The 5:19 p.m. train from New York, due at Wantagh at 6:06 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:24 p.m. train from New York to Freeport, which will be extended to Wantagh.
  • The 5:40 p.m. train from New York, due at Seaford at 6:30 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:47 p.m. from New York to Freeport, which will be extended to Seaford.
  • The 6:05 p.m. from Penn, due at Wantagh at 6:51 p.m., is canceled. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:10 p.m. to Freeport, which will be extended to Wantagh.

Customers should continue to check on service before heading to train stations, said railroad officials, by monitoring the MTA website.
