Local Scout Achieves Rank of Eagle

James Christopher Meloro – a Lindenhurst resident and member Boy Scout Troop 183 in West Babylon – recently received the prestigious Eagle Scout award.

James’ Eagle project included the research, layout, design, fabrication and installation of 13 educational signs about migratory birds and non-migratory shore birds who call Cedar Beach Marina home.

He installed permanent weatherproof signs at the Town of Babylon’s fishing pier, which are now used by local residents and the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s summer camp to identify birds, according to a release from Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley’s office about Meloro’s achievement.

Many of Meloro’s family members, friends and peers attended his Eagle Court of Honor, including proud father and Scoutmaster Chris Meloro, Marianne, his mother, and Mary Meloro.

The new Eagle Scout was also honored by for “completing the difficult journey that leads to the highest award in scouting,” according to the same release from ’s office in Lindenhurst.

Councilman , Suffolk County Police Department’s Sergeant Mike Koubek and ; Suffolk County treasurer and attended, as well.

In addition, other community members and Lindenhurst officials who attended Meloro’s Eagle Court of Honor included , Lindy-based ; , principal; ’s () , who was recently honored by the Lindenhurst Rotary Club; Trustees Maryann Weckerle and Mike Lavorata; and the Bishops Committee’s , a Lindenhurst resident also recently honored by the Rotary Club.
