New Farmers' Market Debuts In Lindenhurst, Officials Celebrate
"Opening day was great. The community welcomed the Lindenhurst Farmers' Market with open arms." - Darlene Perez Fantel, market organizer.

LINDENHURST, NY —The new Lindenhurst Farmers' Market debuted on June 1 at Lindenhurst's village gazebo, connecting the community with an array of beautiful locally grown and handcrafted goods
"Opening day was great. The community welcomed the Lindenhurst Farmers' Market with open arms," Darlene Perez Fantel—who spearheaded the market—told Patch. "The warmth of our community was felt throughout the event as people stayed just to socialize."
Fantel added that the vendors all gave positive feedback and plan to return through the summer, along with some new ones who signed up.

"It was great to see so many residents shopping the small local businesses," she said.
Those businesses—along with a handful of village officials—celebrated the new market with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday.

While the market connects local farmers and artisans with the Lindenhurst community, Fantel found a way to put a couple of new spins on a tried and true community tradition, Patch reported last week.
For example, she implemented the USDA's Senior Farmers Market Program, allowing WIC recipients to use their coupons to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables.
Fantel said that produce offerings will expand "as harvest season has just begun."
In addition, the market also embraces New York's Farmers' Market Designation Program, which allows local wineries, craft breweries and distilleries to sell labeled wine, beer, cider and spirits by the bottle at the market.
The market will also sometimes feature live music by local musicians.
The Lindenhurst Farmers' Market takes place on Saturdays through the summer until November 2 at 116 N. Wellwood Avenue.
