Officials: Police Activity Mon. Night Related to Patient Transport

Suffolk Police tells Lindenhurst Patch the helicopters residents heard in the area were related to an incident involving a patient transport late Monday evening.

The heavy police activity on Monday evening near Sunrise Highway, New York and Albany Avenues and North Greene and Newark Streets - which included several helicopters - was related to a patient transport.

That's according to Suffolk Police officials.

"A person with mental illness escaped from a private ambulance and was being searched for just before 7:30 p.m. He was located just before 10 p.m.," the SCPD told Lindenhurst Patch in an e-mail on Tuesday morning.

He was then transported to Brunswick Hospital on Broadway in nearby Amityville where pyschiactric services are provided, according to police.

Due to the nature of the call, no other details were available for release, according to Suffolk Police.
