Poet's Visit to Lindy High Ignites Passion

Lindenhurst graduate and Suffolk County Poet Laureate reads to high schoolers.

Lindenhurst High School’s English department hosted a poetry symposium featuring poets Kempton Van Hoff, Michael Clarity and George Wallace. Students in drama, creative writing and 12th grade English classes enjoyed the dramatic poetry readings.

Kempton Van Hoff is a professor of writing at State University of New York at Farmingdale and Hofstra University. Michael Clarity is a former Lindenhurst graduate, from the class of 1998 and George Wallace is an award-winning poet and journalist.

He currently serves Suffolk County’s first Poet Laureate and has performed throughout America and Europe.

The readings were coordinated by teacher Richard Ferrara through an event called the Muse Exchange that blends music, visual art and poetry. “The student’s reaction was extremely positive and a few were truly inspired,” said Mr. Ferrara.
