St. John’s Lindenhurst Volunteers Honored

Legislator Horsley recognizes those who give their time at the Lindenhurst church.

Volunteers who give their time at the weekly Community Supper at were honored by Suffolk County Legislator during a recent visit.

Horsley stopped in to extend his “heartfelt appreciation” to the soup kitchen volunteers at the .

Volunteers host a Community Supper each Friday evening at 5 p.m. at the , providing a hot meal as well as the opportunity to interact with members of the community.

Horsley met many of the volunteers, including Kay Herringer and Jerry Schnell, and spent time with residents who were dining.

“Many of our residents live alone and eat their meals in silence. The Community Supper provided by St. John’s volunteers offers a nutritious, well-balanced meal as well as the chance to socialize and mingle with others. All too often residents struggle to make ends meet. This program ensures all of the comforts of home on Friday nights,” said Horsley in a recent release about the program and the volunteers’ efforts.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community. I commend each and every one of them for their dedication and commitment to our residents” the legislator added.
