This Week at the Library

Rounding up this week's events and programs.

Looking for something to do? This week, the has myriad programs that will pique the interest of Lindy residents of all ages.

Here’s the rundown:

April 26
Parent-Child Workshop, 10 a.m.-11 a.m.:
Parents and toddlers, 18-35 months, enjoy playing with others, and have an opportunity to speak with a facilitator on a variety of child-rearing issues. It runs every Tuesday until May 10. Register with child’s name only.

Bridge and Mah Jongg Play, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.: Informal, non-instructional session requires no registration. Bring your own game equipment.

Learn to Draw Workshop, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.: Create art using techniques such as blending, shading and textural reproduction with pencils. All levels of artistic ability are welcome. Bring to class an 11x14 sketch pad, an ebony or HB pencil, a hard eraser and a photo reference. This is a four-session workshop running until May 10.

Family Story Time, 7 p.m.-7:45 p.m.: Fun for children ages to three to seven years old, and their adult caregivers. Listen to stories and sing songs. No advance registration is required.

Book Talk: Sag Harbor, 7 p.m.-8:15 p.m.: Discuss the .

April 27
Mother Goose Time, 9:30 a.m.:
Program features rhymes, songs and finger games for babies from birth to 27 months, accompanied by an adult caregiver. The same program is offered at each meeting time in a given week, noted the LML, so attendance is restricted to once per week, per child. No advance registration is needed. Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis beginning one half hour before program time. Space is limited.

Listen to stories and songs, and make a craft. The same program is offered at each meeting time in a given week, noted the LML, so attendance is restricted to once per week, per child. No advance registration is needed. Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis beginning one half hour before program time. Space is limited.

How to Apply for Suffolk County Civil Service Jobs, 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m.: A representative from Suffolk County Services will do a lecture on how to apply for a Suffolk County service job. Topics will include completing the application, available jobs, taking the test and the civil service list.

April 28

On My Own Story Time, 10:30 a.m.: Listen to stories without a parent. Finger rhymes and a craft offered, too. It’s open to ages three-and-a-half to kindergarten. Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis beginning one half hour before program time. Space is limited.

Thursday Movie, 1:30 p.m.: Enjoy a newly released movie each week. All are welcome. This week’s selection is The Romantics.

April 29
Sign, Sing and Play with Your Toddler or Preschooler, 11 a.m.-11:45 a.m.:
Joelle Daddino, an American Sign Language instructor, will teach children and their parents the alphabet in sign language, and will also focus on letter sounds. Everyone will participate in singing songs, dancing, playing with bubbles and listening to stories. Register with child’s name only.

April 30
Surprise Story and Craft, 11:15 a.m.-12 p.m.:
Dinosaurs, under the sea, out in space....what will it be this week? Join in for stories and a project. Open to children three to seven. Register with child’s name only.

May 1
Clean Comedy Rock'n Randy, 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m.:
A comedy show open to all.

There are also a couple of cancelations:

  • The 7 p.m. Yogalates class on April 25 is canceled.
  • The S.A.T. Workshop on April 28 is canceled.

In addition, April 30 marks the end of a , Library Bingo, which encourages reading. Make bingo by completing the reading activities on your bingo card. Bring the completed card in by the end of April to get a prize.
