8 People Hospitalized After Loop Pkwy Accident
Parkway shut down as beachgoers were heading home.
The Loop Parkway was closed on Memorial Day after an auto accident that involved multiple people who were injured.
According to an unconfirmed Nassau County police bulletin, the accident occurred on the drawbridge in the northbound lane at about 5 p.m. on Monday, and eight people were transported to area hospitals. Two county helicopters were assigned to the accident scene, but only one person was airlifted to a hospital.
The New York State Police, which has jurisdiction on the parkway, was unavailable for comment on Monday evening.

The parkway was closed in both directions, causing major traffic congestion in and around the area, including Park Avenue in Long Beach, as many motorists were heading home from South Shore beaches.
